Educate Yourself On Class Etiquette, Need To Know Information, Dress Code, & Frequently Asked Questions Below!

CLASS ETIQUETTE
1. Arrive to class on time. Attendance will be taken.
2. Hair must be fastened securely away from the face (in a bun for ballet).
3. Follow the dress code. If you are unaware of the dress code for your class, ask your teacher.
4. Gum chewing is NOT permitted.
5. Dance bags, coats, etc. must be hung in the dressing room.
6. Never cross a classroom floor when a lesson is in progress.

DANCE DRESS CODE

7. Listen carefully. Avoid unnecessary talking.
8. Clean up after yourself.
9. No eating in the classrooms.
10. Be respectful of your instructor and classmates.
11. If you need to leave class, let your teacher know.
12. No cell phones in the studios.
13. Parents should not go in the studios except on watch week.
14. Thank your teacher with applause at the end of each class.

PICTURE WEEK
A professional photographer will come to the studio, all classes will be photographed. Individual photos will also be taken. Picture packages will be available for purchase, this service is offered but not required.

WATCH WEEK
Watch Week for this season will be as listed on the Calendar. During this time you will have the opportunity to watch your child’s class as an audience in the classroom. The Watch Weeks are divided according to the classrooms. Please be a respectful, courteous audience and refrain from talking or distracting the class. This also includes supervising your other children who are observing the class and keeping them from distracting the students. Please be encouraging! The students work hard so please feel free to clap for them!

ACADEMY CLOSINGS
The Academy will close if the weather conditions are hazardous. Please check our facebook page…Academy of Dance Arts, or call the studio’s voicemail to find out if classes have been cancelled. Your tuition has been calculated to reflect possible weather cancellations.

COSTUME DEPOSITS
Costume Deposits will be due the first week of November. A $70.00 deposit will be due for each class (if your student intends to dance with the class in the recital). This deposit will be applied to the total costume balance which is due when the costumes arrive in March or April. Costume prices will vary with individual classes. Once a costume is ordered it cannot be cancelled and the balance must be paid in full.

RECITAL
We do our best to keep siblings dancing in the same shows to make performances convenient for families. Because of this, some classes will be asked to perform in more than one show. This is an honor and is also necessary for the dancers who have their families attending the other shows. We ask that your dancer performs in all the shows in which they are scheduled and that you do not leave the performances early. This is disheartening for the other performers and presents us with distractions and security issues.

COMBINATION CLASS TIPS
1. Make sure your student has his/her name in each dance shoe.
2. Put elastic in the tie tap shoes to save time in class.
3. A dance bag is a good way to organize and keep your child’s shoes together.
4. Students should use the bathroom before class.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are my payment options?
We offer two payment options: monthly installments (you can pay several months at a time), yearly payment. Monthly tuition is billed on the first of the month. The yearly payment is billed in one lump sum for the whole year. We do have a tuition cap of $300 per month. The tuition cap does not include solo, duo, and trio tuition. Monthly tuition payments are due the first week of the month. You can pay online, at the studio, over the phone, by mail, or leave payment in the drop box located by the office.

What type of payments do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards with the exception of American Express, personal check, cashiers check and cash.

Can I watch my dancer in class?
All of our studios have a one-way window so you can watch your child. Please keep in mind the dancer can see shadows through the window and this can be distracting for the dancer, especially the young ones. Each studio will have a watch week, parents are invited in to watch class. Watch weeks are in March.

How do I know which class is right for my dancer?
Generally, if a dancer has never taken any dance classes before, she/he would be placed into an age appropriate class. For example, a 7 year old dancer would be placed in a class for 6-7 year- old beginners and a 4 year-old would be placed in a beginner class for ages 4-5.
If your dancer has taken dance class previously, we will have your dancer attend a class to evaluate them. Based on that evaluation the dancer will be placed in an appropriate level class. If you just don’t know which classes your child should take, please email us at academyofdancearts684@gmail.com. We are happy to discuss your dancer’s interests and abilities.

If my dancer misses a class will I get a credit?
We do not offer credit for missed classes however, your dancer can attend a make-up class. Stop by the office to find out when a good option is.

When are costume deposits due?
If your dancer plans to dance in Recital in June a costume deposit is due for each costume by November 1. The costume deposit is $70.

If my dancer decides to not participate in recital after costumes are ordered can I get my deposit back?
No, once costumes are ordered the costume is yours. Even if your dancer does not dance in Recital once costumes arrive you can take it home.

If the Academy closes for weather will I get a credit for the class?
Class tuition has been adjusted to reflect possible weather conditions. You are always welcome to make-up classes.

How do I know when the Academy cancels class for weather?
To check for closure, see our Facebook page (Academy of Dance Arts) or check WZZM. We also send an email to all parents, please make sure we have a current, accurate email address listed on your account. You can check your email address through the Parent Portal or stop by the office.

What should my dancer bring to class?
Appropriate shoes and a water bottle.

~Any color leotard and tights (skirt or tutu optional)

Ballet Classes
~Black leotard and pink tights

~Hair pulled neatly into a bun

Lyrical and Contemporary Classes
~Solid color leotard, pink, tan or black convertible, stirrup or footless tights
~Turners (half sole shoes)

Jazz Classes/Musical Theater Classes
~Solid color leotard with pink or tan tights (dance shorts optional)
